It’s hard to disconnect from the constant news cycle that is overwhelmingly doom-laden. If you have a smartphone, it’s even worse. The endless scrolling on my smartphone is a habit that is hard to break and I know that it affects my relationship with my spouse and children. That’s one reason why I’m going camping with my family this weekend. We’ll be out of mobile range for a full 48 hours. Serenity now!

Apart from the enforced techno-break, it will be a peaceful two days before the madness of having family visiting us for Christmas. I can’t wait to go bushwalking, sleep under the trees, and look at the stars with my children, away from the light pollution of the city. It’s amazing how much you realise that you didn’t miss out on anything when you can’t look at your social media for a few days.
